RankEdge ("we", "our", or "us") operates an AI-powered MCQ assignment platform for schools at www.rankedge.in and via the RankEdge mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
By using RankEdge, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the platform.
2. Who We Serve
RankEdge is used by:
- Schools — registered via a unique school code
- Teachers — create and manage assignments
- Students — attempt assignments on the mobile app
- School Administrators — manage teachers, students, and school settings
Student accounts are created by school administrators on behalf of the school. Students may include minors. We do not allow minors to self-register.
3. Data We Collect
Account Information
- Full name
- Email address
- Password (stored as a bcrypt hash — never in plaintext)
- Role (teacher, student, or school admin)
- School affiliation, class, and section
Assignment & Academic Data
- Assignment responses and scores
- Concept-wise performance metrics
- Assignment submission timestamps
Usage & Integrity Data
- IP address at time of assignment submission (for duplicate-submission detection)
- App-switch events during an assignment attempt (count only, not content)
- Attempt start time and submission time
Technical Data
- Device type and operating system (Android / iOS)
- App version
We do not collect payment information, location data, contacts, camera, or microphone access.
4. How We Use Your Data
- Authenticate users and enforce role-based access
- Deliver assignments to students and record their responses
- Generate concept-wise performance analytics for teachers and administrators
- Detect and flag academically dishonest behaviour (e.g. duplicate submissions)
- Allow school administrators to manage their school's users
- Improve the platform's reliability and features
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Data Access and Sharing
- Within a school: Teachers can view scores and performance of students in their assigned classes. School admins can view all data within their school.
- Across schools: No cross-school data sharing. Each school's data is isolated.
- Third-party services: We use Railway (database hosting), Vercel (web hosting), and Anthropic Claude API (MCQ generation). These providers process data solely to deliver the service and are bound by their own privacy policies.
6. Children's Privacy
RankEdge is designed for use in schools and may process data of students under the age of 18. Student accounts are created exclusively by school administrators — students cannot self-register. We rely on the school acting as the data fiduciary with appropriate parental/guardian consent as required under applicable law, including India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDPA).
We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors outside the school context.
7. Data Security
- All passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage
- Authentication uses JSON Web Tokens (JWT) with HTTPS-only transmission
- The database is hosted on Railway with access restricted to the application
- Auth tokens on student devices are stored in encrypted secure storage
No system is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach, we will notify affected schools promptly.
8. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your school account is active. School administrators can deactivate student and teacher accounts at any time. To request full data deletion, contact us at the email below — we will process your request within 30 days.
9. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Withdraw consent (where applicable)

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of RankEdge after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
